Summer Skimboard Media for DB Skimboards

During summer 2015 I set out on a mission to spread the stoke of flatland skimboarding for DB Skimboards a company based in Tacoma, Washington. My main goal was to create engaging content to delight current customers and help introduce new outdoor enthusiasts to the sport of flatland skimboarding. I am excited to say that not only has traffic been up at DBskimboards.com, so has sales at the local company. My first approach to expanding the reach of the business is creating a series of road trip videos. I traveled with a crew of skimboarders for two weeks through Washington, Utah and California. It was great to get out on the open road and see parts of the country I have not seen before. It was also great to indulge in some In-N-Out Burger along the way. I have to say it was exhausting, but it generated quite a bit of interest. You can watch the three Travels and Wanderings videos I created below. Some of the highlights were skimboarders launching themselves off of a 10 foot waterfall in Utah, skimboarding by the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the quarter pipe in Washington at Chambers Creek. Travels and […]

Seattle Photography: Space Needles, snails and skateboarding

I spent a lot of time during the month of May shooting skateboarding and a wedding and I didn’t have that much time to explore Seattle and capture city and landscape photos, which I love doing. I did manage to get out a few days and here’s a few of my favorite photos from the month of May. An evening at Gas Works Park I drove around Fremont looking for some new photos of the Aurora Bridge and didn’t see anything I liked due to the construction on the bridge. With light disappearing for the day I decided to dash over to Gas Works Park and managed to get two kinda cool photos of a sail boat and the city. What made one of the photos unique was the sun reflecting off of the buildings in downtown hitting the sail of the boat and creating a shadow of the sail. The Space Needle The Space Needle is always around me and I can’t resit capturing photos of it. If there are shoes hanging in front of it, a plane flying by it, a flag on it or just a beautiful sunset more often than not I am going to capture […]

Becky and Ton’y Wedding at Leifer Manor in Marysville

I had the pleasure of capturing Becky and Tony Spencer’s wedding at Leifer Manor in Marysville, Washington a week ago. It was a beautiful ceremony and setting for a wedding and luckily the rain stayed away for the wedding day. Here are some of my favorite photos from the big day. You can checkout more of my wedding photos by clicking here. I do shoot two weddings a year and am booked for 2016, but if you would like to me to shoot your wedding in 2017 I still have one spot open and feel free to contact me at matt@equalmotion.com. Seattle Spring: University of Washington Cherry Trees

I have always seen photos of the Quad at the University of Washington and due to traveling in the spring in the past have never got a chance to see it or photograph it until this year. I ventured to the University of Washington during a busy late winter day to get a lay of the land and checkout some photo options and snapped a few photos. People were everywhere taking selfies and the lighting was harsh, so I planned on getting there at sunrise the following weekend in hope of finding better light and less people. I showed up a 7am on a Sunday and there were about 12 other photographers there and a King 5 news crew (I was the photographer with long hair and a beard on the morning news that day) there capturing the morning spring scene. Unfortunately the sun never came out that morning, but I still got some great photos that I have always wanted to capture and even one that might be print worthy for my own wall. Anyways, I hope you enjoy my photos below and all of these photos are available for print and commercial use. Prints are available along with […]

Capturing the Seattle Central Library

The Seattle Central Library is one of my favorite places to go on a rainy day in Seattle. Wandering and looking at new books and examining the architecture of the building is a super fun way to spend an afternoon. Central Library features a contemporary look and feel that is innovative in both form and function. Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and former Seattleite Joshua Ramus were principal designers on the project, working closely with the Library’s board, staff and the public during its development phase. They did an amazing job. After visiting the library a couple times I had to go back with my camera and my girlfriend Alyne since she never had the opportunity to see the library before. Here’s a few photos from our most recent trip to the library. I encourage everyone to go for the books and the art that is the building. You will not be disappointed.

Leafly Comedy Tour: TJ Miller at The Crocodile in Seattle

On January 2, 2016 I ventured to the Crocodile in Seattle to capture comedian/actor TJ Miller for the first stop of the Leafly Comedy Tour. Thanks to Austin at Do206 for bringing me on to capture the event such a fun and hilarious evening in Seattle. I hope you enjoy the photos and make sure to follow along with Leafly and Do206! New Years In Seattle: Space Needle Fireworks Show Photos

I captured photos of the Space Needle at midnight in 2015 and really wanted to capture a time-lapse video from the same location in 2016 along with capturing portraits of the Space Needle. To do this I setup three cameras one shooting vertical portraits and two other cameras (one with a 300mm lens and the other with a 100mm lens). I setup all three cameras to shoot every 10 seconds and here are the final results. The Seattle cityscape treated me very well in 2015 and I am very excited to start capturing photos in 2016. My first gig of the year will be shooting TJ Miller from HBO’s Silicon Valley to kick off the Leafly Comedy tour at the The Crocodile in Seattle for Do206. The Space Needle was magenta last night due to T-Mobile sponsoring the fireworks show I believe and I captured a few photos of that after sunset without the fireworks to add to my Space Needle photo collection. After hitting up a few parties I ventured back to my apartment where I had my three tripos setup on the roof to capture the fireworks show. Below you can see my favorite photos and the full […]

2015 Seattle Photos of the Year

Welp. It’s that time of the year again where everyone picks their favorite something of the year and puts it into a click bate top 10 list. That is exactly what I am doing here! Here are my top 10 favorite photos I captured last year around Seattle. I can’t see these are my top 10 best photos of the year just my top 10 favorite photos. #10 Lopez Island Sunrise We had to catch an early morning ferry to Anacortes from Lopez Island and we got to the ferry landing early to watch the sunrise. It was worth it. Here’s a photo of my girlfriend Alyne and dog Charlie enjoying the sunrise in the San Juan Islands. #9 12th Man City The night before the Super Bowl I ventured over to West Seattle to capture this photo. There was so much stoke and hope in the city that weekend this photo brings back fond memories of how most people felt before that Super Bowl. Let’s not talk about what happened though… #8 Double Helix Bridge at Sunrise This is one of two self portraits I captured this year that are in my top 10. It’s not because I like […]

Views From West Seattle

I really enjoy West Seattle. It has a small beach-town vibe, but is part of the city. During the summer I venture to Alki Beack quite a lot to skimboard and longboard. I find myself still going out there in the winter for the views and it’s not nearly as crowded as it is during the summer. I recently went out to West Seattle to longboard, walk my dog Charlie, grab some dinner and capture some photos. As Charlie (the dog) ran around on the beach I noticed some clouds rolling in behind the Space Needle as the sun was going down and started shooting photos. As I zoomed out I noticed a red object appearing in the water. As it got closer I realized it was a man swimming, without a wetsuit, in November. As he ran out of the water I asked him what he was doing and if he wanted a copy of the photo and he said mid-sprint “Preparing for a Triathlon. Not Thanks!” and continued running towards his car. I would have done the same. From what I am told people swimming, paddle boarding and any other “summer” activity you can think of still takes […]
