I recently built a website for long-time friend Sam Price who lives in New Zealand. He stayed with me when I lived in Bellingham to skimboard and I have worked with him on several projects over the years. Recently, Sam contacted me about building a new website to sell prints and show the world his video, photo and drone skills. I just finished up on Sam’s new website OXSenterprieses.com.
It was fun bringing Sam’s idea to life and I took a few minutes to talk with him about his business once we launched the new website.
Q. What does OXS stand for?
A. OXS came from the logo design. OXS Skimboards was originally named Omax Skim. A lot of the locals called Omaha (my home) Omax. I drew the logo up, really liked it, it stuck and 8 years later here we are.
Q. What’s your favorite part about capturing video and photo in New Zealand?
A. There’s three things really. One is being able to show people what we have here right under our noses, it’s beautiful. Another is being able to look back in years to come and watch a trip over and reminisce about the good old times. Lastly, it’s fun, people need to do the things they enjoy more!
Q. What is a normal day in the life of Sam Price look like?
A. I think the work related version is I still do a lot of contract lawn mowing around home which keeps me fit. Early start and early finish means I have the afternoons to do the other things from making skimboards, screen printing, a lot of video and photo editing. The gym is crammed in there pretty much everyday as well as a dive at least once a week mid week. Weekends consist of as much fun around the water as possible. OXS TV has plenty of examples.
Q. What was your favorite video you captured recently and why?
A. Nature is always the best for hitting my right in the feel spot. This video of wild horses at the very top of the country:
Or this one of Southern Right Whales about 1.8km off of the coast both unplanned and amazing to see!
Q. What are your plans for the upcoming summer?
A. Rad stuff! In terms of video production I want to really step it up. Cameras, skimboards, surfboards, drones, spearguns and winches are all there, so I’m ready!
About the work I did for OXS Enterprises:
– I created a website featuring a blog and online store since those are the two main features Sam requested.
– I used Woocommerce for the store and customized the StoreFront theme to get the look Sam wanted. This took a decent amount of custom code and additional plugins.
– I helped him setup MailChimp, created test campaigns and installed widgets for easy sign up on the website. I also helped for him with an incentive plan to get new users to sign up for the list.
– I helped write some of the copy on the website and optimize his website for SEO purposes.
Overall, this was a pretty basic website build for me and I was able to get the website launched in a pretty efficient manner to get Sam up and running.
I would love to take on more freelance web development projects in the coming months. I specialize in WordPress, Drupal and Shopify, but am still able to create websites from scratch and work with any other content management system that may be necessary.
If you want to discuss a new project you are working on feel free to contact me!
