2016 Seattle Photos of the Year

2016 was an interesting one for me, but I managed to capture some pretty decent photos along the way. For my top 10 photos of 2016 I tried to pick photos that I liked that also were decently popular in my social feeds. 10. Seattle from Alki Beach I captured this photo from Alki Beach in West Seattle after a Seahawks game when you could barely see the giant 12 lit up in the Seattle skyline. 9. MoPop Reflection I spent a decent amount of time waiting for the monorail to pass by and get the timing right for a reflection in the MoPop Museum (formerly the EMP). It was worth it. After I got this photo my friend Blake helped me get the skate photo mentioned above. 8. Seattle Central Library The Seattle Central Library is one of my favorite places to wander in Seattle. The day before Valentines day my girlfriend Alyne and I wandered around the library and I captured this photo. 7. Spring at UW It was a dismal rainy morning, but I decided to go to the quad at UW to try and capture some of the spring color before the crowds appeared. For this […]

Pet Halloween Costumes Video

I was recently contacted by Petco to help with their Halloween social media campaign. They wanted me to create a video about shopping for pet Halloween costumes at their stores. The kicker is I had to also be in the video and have a complimentary costume to my dog. Watch the video of Charlie being a shark and myself being a kooky bodyboarder aka shark bait. Although it was somewhat embarrassing to film myself it was a fun project and something I have not created before. In fact, I really enjoyed it and would love to make more videos like this in the future of the opportunities arise.

My best friend Charlie

Over three years ago I stumbled across a dog labeled as a corgi/lab mix named Charlie on Petfinder.com. I contacted the adoption service and scheduled a time to meet the dog. When I arrived to meet the dog at the adoption agency Charlie ran over to me and jumped up on my leg. We have been best friends ever since. One of the best parts of having a dog is always having someone to explore with and go on adventures. Charlie loves the beach, going on runs and cruising on a skateboard with me. Here are some recent photos I captured with Charlie.   Skimboarding Charlie and I skimboarding at Richmond Beach outside of Seattle. This photo was a fun one to capture and I used a remote trigger to capture the photo of Charlie and myself. This photo is still the most popular photo ever posted on the DB Skimboards Instagram account. It has nothing to do with me and everything to do with Charlie. Once again proving people love dogs!   Watching the sunrise My girlfriend Alyne and dog Charlie taking in a San Juan Island sunrise. Whenever I travel this photo is always the background on my […]

Seattle Photography: Space Needles, snails and skateboarding

I spent a lot of time during the month of May shooting skateboarding and a wedding and I didn’t have that much time to explore Seattle and capture city and landscape photos, which I love doing. I did manage to get out a few days and here’s a few of my favorite photos from the month of May. An evening at Gas Works Park I drove around Fremont looking for some new photos of the Aurora Bridge and didn’t see anything I liked due to the construction on the bridge. With light disappearing for the day I decided to dash over to Gas Works Park and managed to get two kinda cool photos of a sail boat and the city. What made one of the photos unique was the sun reflecting off of the buildings in downtown hitting the sail of the boat and creating a shadow of the sail. The Space Needle The Space Needle is always around me and I can’t resit capturing photos of it. If there are shoes hanging in front of it, a plane flying by it, a flag on it or just a beautiful sunset more often than not I am going to capture […]

Bald Eagles on Alki Beach in West Seattle

Yesterday I made the trip out to West Seattle to skimboard with some of the guys at DB Skimboards and capture some photos. Part way through the skimboard session I saw two eagles snacking on something along the tide line. I snagged my 70-200mm lens and and waited for something to happen. Kayakers would stop by and take photos of the pair of eagles. One of the Eagles flew away, so I went back up to the boardwalk and walked around to the other side of the eagle in an attempt to get the Space Needle in frame also. I waited in the sand focused on the eagle for about 25 minutes until it finally took off. The wait was worth it and you can see a couple of my favorite photos below. Thanks to King 5 News for featuring my photos also in a gallery HERE Kiro 7 News (I used to be an intern there) for doing a gallery also HERE and LiveWashington on Instagram. This is a great example of being in the right place at the right time and I love bald eagles, the Space Needle and ferries, so I am really happy I had the […]

Views From West Seattle

I really enjoy West Seattle. It has a small beach-town vibe, but is part of the city. During the summer I venture to Alki Beack quite a lot to skimboard and longboard. I find myself still going out there in the winter for the views and it’s not nearly as crowded as it is during the summer. I recently went out to West Seattle to longboard, walk my dog Charlie, grab some dinner and capture some photos. As Charlie (the dog) ran around on the beach I noticed some clouds rolling in behind the Space Needle as the sun was going down and started shooting photos. As I zoomed out I noticed a red object appearing in the water. As it got closer I realized it was a man swimming, without a wetsuit, in November. As he ran out of the water I asked him what he was doing and if he wanted a copy of the photo and he said mid-sprint “Preparing for a Triathlon. Not Thanks!” and continued running towards his car. I would have done the same. From what I am told people swimming, paddle boarding and any other “summer” activity you can think of still takes […]

Lopez Island weekend getaway

I went for a weekend adventure to Lopez Island with my girlfriend and a few friends on Memorial Day weekend. We got to the ferry early even with the reservation just to be sure since the San Juan Island ferries are alway super busy on holiday weekends. Lopez Island was bustling with holiday tourists on Memorial Day weekend, but the small island didn’t seem too packed besides bikers filling the roadways. The first day we ventured to Iceberg Point along the winding paths to capture a few photos and watch the sun drop below the horizon. The next day since I now work for DB Longboards we also filmed a little cruiser edit for DB Longboards (you can see below) and captured a bunch of promo photos. Sunday we ventured to Spencer Spit when the sun appeared on the holiday weekend and let the Charlie the dog run until he could run no further. One of my favorite parts of Lopez Island is the abundance of bald eagles all over the island. A majority of the time the eagles would watch people ride by on bikes and just take it easy in the tree. One eagle was even especially nice […]

Brandy the Bellingham beach dog

Brandy the dog has been at the beach I go to Bellingham for years now to the extent I know the owners and have searched the beach for her when her owners couldn’t find her. Whenever someone heads to the beach she tags along. She is getting up there in years now, but she still loves to dig holes more than any dog I have ever seen. Here’s a few snaps of Brandy the skim dog. Brandy also made an appearance in a DB Skimboards video showing off her digging skills:
