I lucked out due to working at home in Seattle on Thursday and Friday and had the opportunity to capture photos of the Blue Angels for a couple days.
This year was special because a 24 flag, in celebration of Ken Griffey Jr’s induction into the hall of fame, was atop the Space Needle also. I also am very luck to have my photo featured on KOMO 4 news for several days thanks to Shannon O’Donnell at KOMO.
A composite version of the photo where I slightly fixed the flag also made the rounds on social media getting posted on LiveWashington, Seattle.NW, Do206 and even Yahoo sports.
A lot of people have asked via Social Media what I used to capture the photos and this year since my 70-200mm is currently broken I used the Nikon 18-300mm on my Nikon D500. I would never use the lens for portraits or a wedding photography, but with decent outdoor light the lens is a great performer. If you have any other questions about the photos feel free to ask!
With the same lens I also created the short video you can see below using my Nikon D500:
Overall, it was a fun weekend and here are some of my favorite photos I captured of the Blue Angels this year.
And this last photo is of the Amazon plane that took a few laps each day. It was the only plane that took that flight path right above Mount Rainier and I wanted to include it.
Prints are available along with commercial licensing for all of my photos.
You can purchase prints of my photos, cell phone cases, t-shirts, bags and even shower curtains on my FineArtAmerica account here:
