Portland, Seattle and Tacoma cityscapes

I made the trip down to Portland with my girlfriend Alyne to get away for the weekend and I thoroughly pondered not taking a camera with me. Alyne said “you know you will regret if you don’t bring a camera” and she was right. In-between eating at Voodoo Donuts and sampling some beer at Deschutes Brewery I took a little bit of time to capture a long exposure photo of Hawthorne Bridge and the Portland cityscape over the Wilamette River. Portland Cityscape: Buy a print Hawthorne Bridge: Buy a print I also made the trip down to Tacoma this week to meet with the DB Skimboards guys to talk about some upcoming projects. The view of Mt Rainier was so clear that day I had to take a few photos and the one below is from Ruston Way. Mount Rainier over Tacoma: Buy a print On the way back to Bellingham I made a stop at Kerry Park in Seattle and also captured a few photos of the Seattle skyline with Mt Rainier in it. Seattle cityscape: Buy a print here Gotta love summers in the Pacific Northwest and I am glad I still have over a month left of […]

2014 DB Pro Skimboarding Contest

For the past 6 years I have been attending and capturing the DB Pro skimboarding contest that takes place at Dash Point in Federal Way, Washington. Here’s my video edit and a few photos from the contest. The 2014 DB Skimboards Pro/AM took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dash Point, in Federal Way, Washington. To the surprise of no one Isaac Thomas took the pro division win again with his brother Josiah Thomas taking first in the amateur division. Bree Staab won the women’s division and Reed Shumpert won the amateur division. Outside of the standings there was a ton of solid tricks landed by the likes of Devin Poulton and his madonna and Cardo Vega and the benihana. Adam Ballaam took 2nd in the pro division and although he didn’t have as many clean landings as Isaac, Adam put on one hell of a show. Cody Mauer from Utah also stood out by going big and landing a ton of tricks. Ruei Chiu from Taiwan also competed, so the contest had an international presence outside of the United States and Canada, which is always great to see. World Cup Soccer at the Copper Hog in Bellingham

The Bellingham Herald sent me to the Copper Hog to capture photos of locals watching the U.S. v. Germany World Cup soccer game Thursday morning. Over 100 people showed up at the Copper Hog to watch the game and the restaurant/bar was full of all kinds of soccer fans. Although the U.S. lost to Germany 1-0 the U.S. still moved on to the knockout round of 16, so soccer fans celebrated and continued to day drink. Mt Baker Seshup Photos and Video

A few of my friends convinced me to go up to the 2014 Mt Baker Seshup at Mt Baker last weekend and I do not regret the decision to go in the least bit. It was a beautiful day and a damn good time. Close to 200 people gathered to watch some of the top snowboarders in the region show their stuff at the 2014 Mt. Baker Seshup on Sunday, June 1, on Grandma’s at the base of Mount Herman near Mt. Baker Ski Area. The session featured a gap on the in run and a 10- to 12-foot jump that launched riders 20 to 25 feet in the air and 40 feet out. The event was co-sponsored by Aslan Brewing and Casual Indurstrees. For all of my photos make sure to checkout the full gallery on my Facebook fan page by CLICKING HERE. A few of my photos of Pat McCarthy made it into The Bellingham Herald that you can see below. You can read more about it in the short story I wrote for The Bellingham Herald HERE.

New York City: Brooklyn Photography

I spent 10 days exploring New York and my time spent in Brooklyn was easily the highlight of the trip. The area is very hip and most would say it is dominated by hipsters, but I would like to think the area is full of young people creating and experimenting with art, business, music, food and theatre that gives the area such an inspiring/trendsetting feel. It was my first time to New York and I stayed with my brother Tom and his roommates Tori, Rachel and Maggie, at their house in Brooklyn. His house is in the Bushwick area, which is in the northern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The area kinda reminds me of a much larger, more diverse Bellingham, which is rapidly changing. As the rent in most areas like Williamsburg, Brooklyn have skyrocketed, young people have been begun to retreat deeper along the L Train subway line to Bushwick area from what I was told while I was visiting. Now the prices in Bushwick are rising also, so people have to move further down the subway line since it is more affordable. Bushwick has changed a lot over the past decade. According to […]
