I really enjoy West Seattle. It has a small beach-town vibe, but is part of the city. During the summer I venture to Alki Beack quite a lot to skimboard and longboard. I find myself still going out there in the winter for the views and it’s not nearly as crowded as it is during the summer. I recently went out to West Seattle to longboard, walk my dog Charlie, grab some dinner and capture some photos. As Charlie (the dog) ran around on the beach I noticed some clouds rolling in behind the Space Needle as the sun was going down and started shooting photos. As I zoomed out I noticed a red object appearing in the water. As it got closer I realized it was a man swimming, without a wetsuit, in November. As he ran out of the water I asked him what he was doing and if he wanted a copy of the photo and he said mid-sprint “Preparing for a Triathlon. Not Thanks!” and continued running towards his car. I would have done the same. From what I am told people swimming, paddle boarding and any other “summer” activity you can think of still takes […]
Over the past couple months I have been filming with DB Longboards team rider Devon Dotson skating on the Keystone 37″. We hit up a downhill spot near Mount Vernon, but besides that we filmed in the Seattle area. We hit up two skate parks and a couple freeride spots. It was somewhat difficult to film due to all of the rain, but we managed to put together this edit by our December 1st deadline. Hope you like the new video and you can view it below.
I have been editing so many longboarding and skimboarding videos I captured last summer it is seriously making me miss the summer weather, actives and vibes. I had to hold all of this media for winter product releases and I just released my first media package for the Atlas Trucks Touch Enabled Slide Gloves last Wednesday. You can find out more about those wonderful gloves by CLICKING HERE. I really enjoyed filming editing this video and we did the whole shoot in one day, which was great. Atlas Trucks team rider Jackson Wells and I ventured to Everett to find some new longboarding spots that have not been overshot and we did find a couple of great spots. Check the video and photos below.
Super rad day at the Washington Triple Crown of Downhill. Here’s all the photos I captured and feel free to use them as long as you give me photo credit and tag @equalmotion on Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr and/or Twitter. You also must never ride a Solo Wheel and/or Razor Scooter for the rest of your life (see photo below). If you want high-resolution copies of the photos you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks to Nate Blackburn and Bradley Cameron for putting on a super fun event.
I love capturing photos in the summer, but over the past couple years autumn has become my favorite season due to fall colors. I didn’t get a ton of time to explore Seattle looking for fall colors, but here’s a few photos I did manage to capture over the past month or so. Some of these photo were captured in Capitol Hill, the Washington Park Arboretum, Beacon Hill, West Seattle, Kerry Park and Ballard. Nearly all of these photos are available for commercial use and framed and canvas prints are available along with t-shirts, cell phone cases, pillows and more by going to my Pixels.com account (click here to check it out). ght=”600″ /> Follow along on: Instagram Twitter Facebook Tumblr You can purchase prints of my photos, cell phone cases, bed sheets, bags and even shower curtains on my FineArtAmerica account here: Fine Art America Prints Also, some of these photos are available for commercial use on my 500px account that you can get to by checking out here: 500pxart.com/equalmotion You can also see more of my professional work at: http://mattmcdonaldphotos.com
I recently captured some photos and video of Ian Hilger riding the DB Longboards Dyad V2 longboard for SkateSlate Magazine and figured I would repost some of the photos here. As of late I have gotten more into the freestyle type of longboarding and spent a bulk of my vacation teaching my self how to land an old school kick flip (there is a reason I am professional photographer, not a professional skateboader). I spent last weekend sitting on top of a mountain in the rain capturing photos of the WhistlerLongboard Festival. Luckily I was brought enough rain gear to keep me dry for three days. Here’s a couple of my favorite photos from the weekend and you can see all the photos on DB Longboards website by CLICKING HERE.
One of my photos from Artist Point landed on the cover of Whatcom Magazine. I also wrote a story about skimboarding for the issue and they ran a photo of myself skimboarding as a double page spread along with one of my photos of DB Skimboards team rider Casey Gackle. You can read the skimboarding story I wrote by CLICKING HERE. I still actively freelance since leaving my job as a full-time photojournalist and love the opportunity to still write outdoor stories for Whatcom Magazine and The Bellingham Herald.
Some people may not know, but I am the team manager for DB Longboards, DB Skimboards, Atlas Trucks and Cloud Ride Wheels. I recently added Seattle longboarder and skateboarder Devon Dotson to the DB Longboards team and am pretty excited about it since he is really fun to skate and shoot with. Here’s some recent photos of him I captured at the skate park and smashing through local hills along with a fresh edit of him I shot and edited that was released today.
I had a fair amount of requests for print options and t-shirts of my planet Seattle design and you can no purchase both along with pillows, sheets, canvas prints and more over at my Pixels.com account. I created this design using about 5 different photos I captured and lots of pen tooling in Photoshop around the Seattle skyline. [CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PRINT OPTIONS]
