2014 Ski to Sea Race Photos

Another Ski to Sea is in the books. I worked from 4:30am to 8pm yesterday to capture the race and to help put together four photo pages for The Bellingham Herald. DB Skimboards European Tour: Denmark

I had the opportunity to travel and skimboard with DB Skimboards this summer and we ventured to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. Here’s some video, photos and words from our brief stay in Denmark. We had only a few hours to stay in Denmark and we found the best beach for skimboarding we could. The spot left a lot to be desired, but Friedrich and Daniel made the best of it using what they could find on the beach. Minus the naked old men it was a beautiful beach and was well worth the stop or at least we thought that until we got back to the van. As we walked back to the van we approached it and notice one of the doors was open. “We locked the doors for sure,” Dallas insisted and I ran up to the van where we could see someone broke a window and got into the van where they stole backpacks that were in the middle of the van. Kiteboarding in Bellingham Bay

I have been checking Locust Beach on and off for a few months now when I needed to find a cutline only photo for The Bellingham Herald and Tuesday, March 25 I finally had the opportunity to try and capture some kiteboarding photos. I put on my wetsuit and grabbed to cameras and walked out as far as I could into Bellingham Bay. Patrick Harber, a Bellingham KitePaddleSurf employee, was the main person I took photos of since he was closer to the shore than the other kiteboarders. I really enjoyed capturing it and want to do it again for work and just for myself along with finally trying out kiteboarding. If I am going to stay in Bellingham there is no reason I shouldn’t be kiteboarding. You can see the full photo gallery over on BhamHerald.com by Clicking Here also.

DB Skimboards European Tour: Netherlands

I had the opportunity to travel and skimboard with DB Skimboards this summer and we ventured to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. Here’s some video, photos and words from our first stop in Denmark. We finished up at the 2013 DB Pro/Am in Washington state, some of us slept for a few hours and some of us stayed up all night and partied. We flew out of Seattle to the Netherlands early in the morning and the whole flight was filled with the anticipation of how the DB European Skim Tour would start. “The Netherlands was an amazing place to fly into,” said Adam Balaam. “It was all super flat and loaded with farmland. As far as you could look there were grassy fields and windmills, lots of large metal windmills.” We arrived at the Amsterdam airport with our luggage and board bags and were picked up by Friedrich Fluh and his father Michael in a large Ford van. Catching air at the Bellingham Skatepark

Since I have become a full-time photographer at The Bellingham Herald I have come to absolutely love searching for a CLO (cutline only photo) and the thrill of having to find something photo/news worthy in Whatcom County. These photos usually run on the front page of The Bellingham Herald and I also must provide a cutline with a quote or even a short story to accompany the photo. More often than not it’s an adrenal rush for me including during the winter when it gets dark so early and I only have so much avaible light. On Thursday I was driving around looking for photos and from Lakeway Drive I could see a skateboarder boosting out of the bowl at the Bellingham skate park. I made a quick u-turn and headed towards the skate park. I ran across the street and started talking with the skateboarder Sage Overstreet who is a junior at Western Washington University. 2014 Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom

I had the opportunity to capture the Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom for The Bellingham Herald Sunday. It was a pretty good time and a learning experience to say the least. As thankful as I am for Mt Baker Ski area always taking me around on a snow mobile for events I really need to learn how to snowboard, so I can ride with my cameras to get to better locations for photos on the mountain. Anyways, here’s some photos from the event.

Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl!

In 2012 no one really knew who these two best friends Doug Baldwin and Richard Sherman were. When I took this photo I had no idea two years down the road they would help bring a Super Bowl to Seattle. I am pretty damn happy one of the Seattle pro teams won a championship and I got to witness it… For the past several weeks I have taken photos of Seahawks 12 man rallies, local residents going to the Super Bowl and pretty much any and everything Seahawks related for The Bellingham Herald. Opening day at Mt. Baker Ski Area

The Bellingham Herald sent me up to Mt. Baker Ski Area for opening day on Nov. 21, 2013. It was easily my favorite photo assignment to date. It days like this that put a huge smile on my face. Here’s the photos and video from the day.

This summer I was part of the DB Skimboards European Tour that traveled through Europe for three weeks. The last stop of the tour was the Polish Skimboarding Open.
