2016 Seattle Photos of the Year

2016 was an interesting one for me, but I managed to capture some pretty decent photos along the way. For my top 10 photos of 2016 I tried to pick photos that I liked that also were decently popular in my social feeds. 10. Seattle from Alki Beach I captured this photo from Alki Beach in West Seattle after a Seahawks game when you could barely see the giant 12 lit up in the Seattle skyline. 9. MoPop Reflection I spent a decent amount of time waiting for the monorail to pass by and get the timing right for a reflection in the MoPop Museum (formerly the EMP). It was worth it. After I got this photo my friend Blake helped me get the skate photo mentioned above. 8. Seattle Central Library The Seattle Central Library is one of my favorite places to wander in Seattle. The day before Valentines day my girlfriend Alyne and I wandered around the library and I captured this photo. 7. Spring at UW It was a dismal rainy morning, but I decided to go to the quad at UW to try and capture some of the spring color before the crowds appeared. For this […]

My Interview with SkateSlate Magazine

I don’t work in the skate industry anymore, but I still skateboard and I do miss being involved. I am going to start doing web development work and content creation with SkateSlate. I have a few ideas for some interviews I am going to start working on and a few video side projects. With that being said, thanks to SkateSlate editor, Les Robertson, for taking the time to interview me for the magazine. Read the full Interview HERE A few photos and video from the Interview:

Seattle skate and Giants Head Photos in Concrete Wave Magazine

When I got back from Greece this week I had a new issue of Concrete Wave in my mailbox. I opened up the new skateboard magazine and saw one of my photos from Giants Head on the table of contents page. For the first time ever in a magazine, there was also a photo of myself skateboarding. This photo ran in the “Tourist Trapped” section and editor Michael Brooke contacted me to see if I had any photos of skateboarding around landmarks in Seattle. I just so happened to have this photo of me doing a boneless at the Seattle Center captured by Seattle photographer Blake Gillies. , I never thought I would get a photo of me skateboarding in a magazine. As a kid I had pages of skate and surf magazine all over my wall growing up, and I never thought I would be one of those people later on in life. Overall it was a pretty cool experience to say the very least.

The Washington Coast: Surf trip to Neah Bay

My longtime friend Ben is moving back to the East Coast next week. I have known Ben since high school and he was also my roommate in college. Ben, and his dad Jeff, are both longtime surfers and I have been lucky to go on surf trips with both of them over the years. Yesterday Ben, Jeff and myself made the trip out to the Washington peninsula for a surf session. The surf was nothing special, but the company and time away from a computer was. Jeff is nearly 70-years old and surfs better than most people in Washington. Surfing keeps the mind and body young. He grew up in Southern California and started surfing in 1959 and has always had amazing stories to share about surf culture in California. He also was one of the first people surfing the coast in Washington state and may have discovered most of the main spots people surf today. The morning started out cold and foggy, but there were moments of sun breaks along the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Once we got to Hobuck in Neah Bay we drove back and forth watching waves and debating where we should paddle out. After […]

DB Longboards Mountain Run Video

For the past two years I have been working for DB Longboards and DB Skimboards. The job entailed long hours, lots of traveling, little sleep and a few injuries along the way. I got to live out some childhood dreams of working in the action sports industry and work with some amazing people along the way. It was all worth it though including when I get to release a video like this: For this video, we spent two days filming outside of Seattle. During the first day I was actually passing a kidney stone. Since the shoot was planned I decided to just deal with the pain and work on the project. The second day of filming I worked with Michael Dyrland, of DP Drones, to get the aerial footage we wanted along with some additional b-roll shots like the macro flower and sun fly by shots I captured. All in all I think this is my best work as an action sports videographer. It was a great experiment to try and make something different with a longboard video while also creating something the core longboard market would enjoy. I still plan on being involved with the action sports industry, […]

Photos and video from the 2016 DB Pro skim contest

I have now been capturing photos of the DB Pro/AM skimboarding contest for 8 years. This year was one of my favorites due to the light hearted nature of the contest due to making it rider judged. Thanks to the help of Tyler Myers and Above Seattle I was able to capture and edit one of the better DB Pro/AM edits I have released. Along with the video I captured quite a few photos. Here’s a few photos from the day at Dash Point, in Federal Way, Washington. You can view all of the photos by CLICKING HERE.

Seafair 2016: Blue Angel Photos

I lucked out due to working at home in Seattle on Thursday and Friday and had the opportunity to capture photos of the Blue Angels for a couple days. This year was special because a 24 flag, in celebration of Ken Griffey Jr’s induction into the hall of fame, was atop the Space Needle also. I also am very luck to have my photo featured on KOMO 4 news for several days thanks to Shannon O’Donnell at KOMO. A composite version of the photo where I slightly fixed the flag also made the rounds on social media getting posted on LiveWashington, Seattle.NW, Do206 and even Yahoo sports. My favorite Mariner, Hall of Fame member Ken Griffey Jr had his jersey retired tonight at Safeco. Photo by @equalmotion of the Blue Angels flying by the @spaceneedle. #LiveWashington to be featured! #BlueAngels A photo posted by Washington State (@livewashington) on Aug 6, 2016 at 8:11pm PDT Epic shot of the @USNavyBlueAngels flying through Seattle captured by our good friend @equalmotion, be sure to visit his account and show him some community kindness! Hope y'all are enjoying the week and filling your days with unforgettable adventures. Keep tagging #igers_seattle on your new and […]

Skate, Skim and Fun: Summer in West Seattle

West Seattle is full of activities and Alki Beach is the source for all things fun in the area. Thanks to the 2.5 mile board walk that runs from Alki Point to the Duwamish Head on Elliott Bay accompanied by spectacular views it is a local favorite. Picture perfect summer days bring people out and make parking hard to find. You can walk, bike, rollerblade, play volleyball, search the beach for treasures, sunbathe, search for Pokemon or if you are like me skateboard and skimboard. Recently, I ventured out to West Seattle with DB Longboards team rider Spencer Smith to bring an idea we had to life. We wanted to feature downhill longboarding, cruising and skimboarding in one video. So, we started off with Spencer bombing a hill, then switched to a cruiser to head to the beach and finally ended near Anchor Point for a skimboard session on a custom DB Skimboard. This edit was a lot of fun to storyboard and shoot. You can checkout the final product below. A lot of credit has to go to Spencer for this video since he is one of the best downhill longboarders in the world, has great style while cruising […]

Summer Skimboard Media for DB Skimboards

During summer 2015 I set out on a mission to spread the stoke of flatland skimboarding for DB Skimboards a company based in Tacoma, Washington. My main goal was to create engaging content to delight current customers and help introduce new outdoor enthusiasts to the sport of flatland skimboarding. I am excited to say that not only has traffic been up at DBskimboards.com, so has sales at the local company. My first approach to expanding the reach of the business is creating a series of road trip videos. I traveled with a crew of skimboarders for two weeks through Washington, Utah and California. It was great to get out on the open road and see parts of the country I have not seen before. It was also great to indulge in some In-N-Out Burger along the way. I have to say it was exhausting, but it generated quite a bit of interest. You can watch the three Travels and Wanderings videos I created below. Some of the highlights were skimboarders launching themselves off of a 10 foot waterfall in Utah, skimboarding by the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the quarter pipe in Washington at Chambers Creek. Travels and […]

Spring Skateboard Media

Spring has been very busy trying to create media and marketing campaigns for new products for DB Longboards and Cloud Ride Wheels. Here’s three of my favorite recent skate videos I have created over the past couple months. CoreFlex Compound Spring Maryhill Freeride Cloud Ride Wheels Slusheez In between all of this media production and long work days I have actually been skateboarding more, which has been a huge stress reliever although it does take a toll on my body at 34-years old. Capturing marketing media has been a huge shift from being a photojournalist and web developer, but I am really enjoying it. I have learned so much about how to create more engaging and useful media and how to properly track, analyze and and repurpose it. I am excited for what opportunities might be next!
