El Ten Eleven live in Bellingham

I am a huge El Ten Eleven fan and I was able to see them live again for the second time at the Wild Buffalo in Bellingham. They put on a great show once again and had different visuals, so it was nice to mix it up a bit. You can see all my photos of El Ten Eleven here: Click Here For Full Gallery.

Whats Up! 16th Anniversary: Manatee Commune, Learning Team and Wild Throne

Last Saturday was the 16th anniversary of Bellingham’s music magazine Whats Up! Bellingham turned into one large music venue with bands playing everywhere. I managed to bounce around and saw Manatee Commune at the Wild Buffalo, Learning Team at MakeShift and Wild Throne at the Shakedown and here’s a few photos.

Voyager live in Bellingham

On Friday night Voyager, a 80s cover/tribute band from Bellingham, had me take photos of them at the Wild Buffalo. Find out more about Voyager and find upcoming show on their Facebook page here: facebook.com/voyagerlive/ And here’s a little bit more about the band… “This group of intergalactic youngsters pull out all the stops to put on the most Hi-Voltage, Fun Lovin’ show they possibly can. They specialize in 80s heavy metal/hard rock/glam rock with plenty of surprises in between. Come see the Heavy Metal Metal Masters of the Universe in all their denimed and leathered glory as they continue to rise in the ranks of the local/regional scene and play places that no 80s cover/tribute band has played before. For their money there is no better theme music for a big party than Hard Rock and 80s Heavy Metal and they are fully committed to bringing it back.”

Bellingham Snowpocalypse 2014

It wasn’t really a snowpocalypse, but the snow is always a story. I spent pretty much 16-hours outside the past two days capturing the snow storm in Bellingham for The Bellingham Herald. Sledding, snowboarding, car accidents, snow men, kayaks and more were some of the images I tried to capture. You can see more of my photos along with fellow photojournalist Philip A. Dwyer’s work in the following to links: Snow photos day 1: Click Here Snow photos photos day 2: Click Here My favorite part is the early morning when the sound is deadened by the snow and there is no one around. These are a few of those “moments” that I captured Monday morning before work. Anyways, snowpocalyse 2014 is coming to a close and it was pretty entertaining.

Just launched the new Summer Meltdown Festival website

I just launched the new Summer Meltdown Festival website (SummerMeltdownFest.com) this morning. The website design comes from Andy and Lindsay at Blank Design Studio, but I I did the back-end coding and a vast majority of the photos I captured the past two years. Summer Meltdown is the largest locally-produced independent camping and music festival in the Pacific Northwest. Nestled at the foot of majestic Whitehorse Mountain in the heart of the Cascade Mountains in Darrington, Washington, the festival is held each August and features over 30 bands on three stages over three days, the Green Village showcasing environmental and social outreach, food, craft and retail vendors, a Kids’ Area, Kids’ Parade, the Little Seahorse Music Academy and more. Make sure to checkout the new website: SummerMeltdownFest.com and below are the promo photos I captured of the festival.

Catching air at the Bellingham Skatepark

Since I have become a full-time photographer at The Bellingham Herald I have come to absolutely love searching for a CLO (cutline only photo) and the thrill of having to find something photo/news worthy in Whatcom County. These photos usually run on the front page of The Bellingham Herald and I also must provide a cutline with a quote or even a short story to accompany the photo. More often than not it’s an adrenal rush for me including during the winter when it gets dark so early and I only have so much avaible light. On Thursday I was driving around looking for photos and from Lakeway Drive I could see a skateboarder boosting out of the bowl at the Bellingham skate park. I made a quick u-turn and headed towards the skate park. I ran across the street and started talking with the skateboarder Sage Overstreet who is a junior at Western Washington University. We talked and he just started skating again and I did my best to capture his frontside 360s and frontside indie grabs. “I’ll do it until the day I die,” Overstreet said. “We have been really blessed this winter compared to normal because it’s […]

2014 Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom

I had the opportunity to capture the Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom for The Bellingham Herald Sunday. It was a pretty good time and a learning experience to say the least. As thankful as I am for Mt Baker Ski area always taking me around on a snow mobile for events I really need to learn how to snowboard, so I can ride with my cameras to get to better locations for photos on the mountain. Anyways, here’s some photos from the event.

Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl!

In 2012 no one really knew who these two best friends Doug Baldwin and Richard Sherman were. When I took this photo I had no idea two years down the road they would help bring a Super Bowl to Seattle. I am pretty damn happy one of the Seattle pro teams won a championship and I got to witness it… For the past several weeks I have taken photos of Seahawks 12 man rallies, local residents going to the Super Bowl and pretty much any and everything Seahawks related for The Bellingham Herald. Video from the first 12th Man rally in Bellingham: Video from the second 12th Man rally in Bellingham:

Weekend in Seattle

I went down to Seattle for the weekend and had a little bit of time to wander around and take photos. Here’s a few photos from Volunteer Park, Pike Place Market, the Great Wheel and the Hammering Man. I need to spend more time in Seattle to capture better photos of all of these landmarks.
