Seattle: Washington Park Arboretum Marine Trail

The Washington Park Arboretum sits along Lake Washington in Seattle, Washington and it is a beautiful place to explore in the Seattle time. I recently took a walk with my girlfriend Alyne and dog Charlie along the Marine Trail and captured a few photos. The parks 230 acres offers a dynamic assortment of plants found nowhere else and this trail was beautiful. The trail weaves around the shoreline and underneath the I-90 bridge. You can see lots of boats, canoes and jet ski’s roaming the lake along with a great view of the Montlake Bridge that carries State Route 513 (Montlake Boulevard) over Seattle’s Montlake Cut—part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal—connecting Montlake and the University District. The Montlake Bridge is celebrated as the site of boating season’s “opening day” festivities the first Saturday in May and today it was obvious boating season was in full-effect. Anyways, if you haven’t walked along this trail and live in Seattle make sure to.

DB Skimboards Skim Camp Photos and video (cute kids post)

Last week I captured photos and video for DB Skimboards of their annual DB Skim Camp at Dash Point in Federal Way, Washington. Not only were these kids unbelievably stoked to be at the beach all day they were also just adorable. Here’s some photos and a promo edit I made during one day of the skimboard camp. They still have one skim camp session open this summer and you can learn more at DBskimcamp.com!

Seattle Seafair: Rooftop View Of The Blue Angles

When I still lived in Bellingham and was looking for places to live in Seattle my main objective was to find a place close to Volunteer Park with a view. I did find that perfect apartment and have really enjoyed my placement in the city and roof access. It’s where I have captured a vast majority of my Seattle cityscapes photos this year. Saturday and Sunday I took advantage my rooftop view and captured a few photos and video of the Blue Angels flying around the Seattle skyline. All the dogs in the apartment also had a small party while the humans watched jets fly by. Next year I need to rent a 400mm f2.8 and try to capture photos from a different vantage point.

The Blue Moon Rising in Seattle

In all honesty I was not planning on capturing photos of the Blue Moon since I new it was not going to be actually blue and I have plenty of photos of past super moon’s already. But once the sun went down and I knew the moon was about to rise I could not help myself. Here’s a few photos I captured of the Blue Moon rising over the foothills out side of Seattle, Washington.

Wandering a Seattle city block with a macro lens

The first two weeks of July I was on a road trip filming, driving and not sleeping very much. It was a rad experience and I got a ton of great photos and video for an upcoming series and magazine from DB Skimboards. Long hours and no-days off are all part of the job and that is why down time is so important. The only issue with downtime at my job is I still want to capture photos everyday. I finally got a few days off and decided in-between sleeping / relaxing I would only use my Nikon D7100 and 105mm f2.8 macro lens. It was fun to focus only on the little things with a camera. I started off capturing some flowers right outside of my apartment in Capitol Hill while walking my dog Charlie. Flowers are an easy subject to capture with a macro lens and usually a crowd pleaser. I know I look like a crazy person when I stop walking my dog and sometimes lay on the ground to capture a photo of a flower and/or weed, but it is worth it. The cool part about this post is everyone of these photos was captured within […]

Fun Seattle Senior Portraits with Graham

Last week I met up with Mercer Island high senior Graham to capture some senior portraits. When his mom contacted me about capturing photos she also asked if I could capture some photos of him longboarding also. Naturally, the answer was yes. I met up with Graham and his brother and parents and the Washington Park Arboretum to capture the traditional portraits. After that we ventured to one of my local skate spots to capture another unique set of photos for him. It was a blast and it really gives some diversity to the photos that he can use in graduation announcements, yearbook photos or just to keep for memories. Anyways, if you are looking for senior portraits for your son or daughter and live in the Seattle area feel free to shoot me an email to: matt@equalmotion.com

Portland Road Trip with DB Longboards

Two weeks ago I ventured to Portland with DB Longboards, Cloud Ride Wheels and Atlas Trucks to capture some promo photo and video for an event taking place this Saturday at Switchbacks in Portland with Daddies Board Shop. Here are some of the photos from the trip. My favorite part of the trip was visiting Rowena Crest along the Columbia River, which is the beautiful road at the end of the video. >

Photos featured in Pulse Skimboarding Magazine

I recently had three photos featured in the new issue of Pulse Skimboarding Magazine. One photo of Casey Gackle skimboarding in Bellingham, a photo of Adam Balaam skimboarding in San Francisco and a photo of Isaac Thomas skimboarding in Tacoma. It’s always great to help boost the skimboarding scene and to get some photos of my friends and DB Skimboards team riders into magazine.
