Seattle: Washington Park Arboretum Marine Trail

The Washington Park Arboretum sits along Lake Washington in Seattle, Washington and it is a beautiful place to explore in the Seattle time. I recently took a walk with my girlfriend Alyne and dog Charlie along the Marine Trail and captured a few photos. The parks 230 acres offers a dynamic assortment of plants found nowhere else and this trail was beautiful. The trail weaves around the shoreline and underneath the I-90 bridge. You can see lots of boats, canoes and jet ski’s roaming the lake along with a great view of the Montlake Bridge that carries State Route 513 (Montlake Boulevard) over Seattle’s Montlake Cut—part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal—connecting Montlake and the University District. The Montlake Bridge is celebrated as the site of boating season’s “opening day” festivities the first Saturday in May and today it was obvious boating season was in full-effect. Anyways, if you haven’t walked along this trail and live in Seattle make sure to.

Seattle Seafair: Rooftop View Of The Blue Angles

When I still lived in Bellingham and was looking for places to live in Seattle my main objective was to find a place close to Volunteer Park with a view. I did find that perfect apartment and have really enjoyed my placement in the city and roof access. It’s where I have captured a vast majority of my Seattle cityscapes photos this year. Saturday and Sunday I took advantage my rooftop view and captured a few photos and video of the Blue Angels flying around the Seattle skyline. All the dogs in the apartment also had a small party while the humans watched jets fly by. Next year I need to rent a 400mm f2.8 and try to capture photos from a different vantage point.

The Blue Moon Rising in Seattle

In all honesty I was not planning on capturing photos of the Blue Moon since I new it was not going to be actually blue and I have plenty of photos of past super moon’s already. But once the sun went down and I knew the moon was about to rise I could not help myself. Here’s a few photos I captured of the Blue Moon rising over the foothills out side of Seattle, Washington.

Wandering a Seattle city block with a macro lens

The first two weeks of July I was on a road trip filming, driving and not sleeping very much. It was a rad experience and I got a ton of great photos and video for an upcoming series and magazine from DB Skimboards. Long hours and no-days off are all part of the job and that is why down time is so important. The only issue with downtime at my job is I still want to capture photos everyday. I finally got a few days off and decided in-between sleeping / relaxing I would only use my Nikon D7100 and 105mm f2.8 macro lens. It was fun to focus only on the little things with a camera. I started off capturing some flowers right outside of my apartment in Capitol Hill while walking my dog Charlie. Flowers are an easy subject to capture with a macro lens and usually a crowd pleaser. I know I look like a crazy person when I stop walking my dog and sometimes lay on the ground to capture a photo of a flower and/or weed, but it is worth it. The cool part about this post is everyone of these photos was captured within […]

Seattle Longboarding Photos with DB Longboards and Atlas Trucks

Over the past couple weeks I have done a lot of longboarding and captured a lot of longboarding photos in the Seattle area. My first session was with DB Longboards rider Spencer Smith and we hit up a few spots in Seattle to do some downhill longboarding and freeriding on the new Keystone Longboard. And here is a photo sequence I captured of Spencer gripping through one of the turns on the longboard run we found. The following day I went out to shoot with Seattle longboarder Jackson Wells who rides for Atlas Trucks. We ventured to a couple different spots around Seattle and worked on a new video featuring Atlas’s new Ultralight 8mm Truck. Here’s a few photos of Jackson. A few days later I ventured out with Cloud Ride Wheels team rider Nick DiVona to check on some hills I found using Google Maps and Google Street view. a bunch of the spots either were flat or had horrible concrete, but we managed to find a couple new spots that are great near Mount Rainier that you can see below. On Mother’s Day I ventured to Everett where I grew up to see my mom and went on […]

Spring in Seattle

It has been a beautiful spring in the Pacific Northwest. Every Saturday I usually venture out to one of the local parks in Seattle and here is a bunch of photos from those mini adventures. Some of the places these photos were captured at are 15th street, Washington Park Arboretum, Seward Park. And a little more detailed view of the spring colors in Seattle. Another fun thing to do at Seward Park is longboard. My girlfriend Alyne and I grabbed our DB Longboards and cruised around the loop and along the waterline of Lake Washington. You can see more of my longboard cruising Seattle series at DBLongboards.com here.

Macro Photography: Up close with the Seattle rain

It’s been an unusually warm and dry winter in the Pacific Northwest, but the rain returned this weekend in Seattle and it gave me the chance to work on my macro photography. I actually missed the rain quite a bit and wandered around my neighborhood and apartment complex with a 105mm macro, focus tube and for a few of the photos an off camera speed light. Here’s the photos I captured. Seattle Seahawks City brought to you by the 12th Man

The Seattle Seahawks are on their way to their second Super Bowl and I could not be more stoked. After having the opportunity to capture a game on the field this season and talking briefly with Doug Baldwin and Pete Carroll I could not be more of a fan than I ever have in my life. The Seahawks vs Packers game was easily the most amazing football I have ever watched and I have watched it in its entirety again already. Seattle and all the 12s go all out to support the Seahawks and here are some of the photos I have captured over the past couple week around the city of Seattle. Go Hawks! And below is one of my photo of a crowded CenturyLink field I captured way back in 2010. Tomorrow for Blue Friday I plan on posting a bunch of my favorite photos I captured on the field while at the Seahawks game this season. And to stay up to date with all of my photography and video make sure to follow on one or all of the social media networks below: Instagram Youtube Twitter Facebook Tumblr
