King Country Metro: Where To Metro Social Campaign

I am helping with the #WhereToMetro King County Metro Transit campaign and I originally captured the first half of this as a traditional video, but it just did not feel right. So, I captured some stop-motion videos instead and walked around downtown in an elf hat. It was a lot of fun and pretty silly to say the least. My mom loves to remind me that when I was a kid, I used to say, “Hi, my friend bus! Bye, my friend bus!” every single time one drove by. I’d even cry if I missed it. Some things never change because I still love buses and snapping photos of them around Seattle. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Matt McDonald (@equalmotion)

Let There Be Light At Pier 86 In Seattle

I ventured to Myrtle Edwards Park to capture some photos and a time-lapse videos of the “Let There Be Light” art installation in Seattle. “Let There Be Light” is be a celebration of the Seattle waterfront, it’s history, it’s people, and it’s light shining the way into the future. The art on the Pier 86 Grain Terminal featured two different projection art installations from Northwest artists. The series is running from Dec 11 – Dec 21st, 2019. Seattle Hidden Gems with Abercrombie & Fitch and Do206

I recently teamed up with Do206 and Abercrombie & Fitch for a branded content advertising campaign. I did some research, captured photos and video for the campaign and created an online guide. Not only was the guided content received well, but Abercrombie renewed their contract with Do206. I couldn’t be happier to help that relationship grow and expand with my content.

Sacramento Skimboarding Film Trip

I made the trip to Sacramento with DB Skimboards team rider, Isaac Thomas, and SeventyOne team rider Logan Davidson to meet up with Ruben Luis Gutierrez for some Sacramento skimboarding. This was my last assigment for DB and the footage was just leftovers, but with all of the nice weather I decided to edit something together. More photos here: – Land Or Slam Skimboard Jam – Rollins Lake Skimboard Session

The Seattle Skyline in the Fog

The Seattle skyline covered in a low-lying fog is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The Space Needle and buildings poking out of the clouds always makes for a good photo. With that being said I managed to capture the fog flying back from Texas. I was  on an Alaskan Airlines flight, in coach, capturing photos through double airplane windows. I didn’t think that I would get a better photo than the one of Mount Rainier above, but I was wrong. When we started to get over Seattle I saw fog in the distance. When we started our descent I took as many photos as I could because shooting through the double-glass airplane windows is not the best. It could have been better, but I like how a few of them turned out. A few weeks later the fog returned. I woke early to take the dog out right after sunrise and saw fog wrapped around the Space Needle. I ran back to my apartment and to my photo spot on Capitol Hill to capture a few more photos. It was so good I decided to leave my camera running for a time-lapse. I ended up editing […]

Pet Halloween Costumes Video

I was recently contacted by Petco to help with their Halloween social media campaign. They wanted me to create a video about shopping for pet Halloween costumes at their stores. The kicker is I had to also be in the video and have a complimentary costume to my dog. Watch the video of Charlie being a shark and myself being a kooky bodyboarder aka shark bait. Although it was somewhat embarrassing to film myself it was a fun project and something I have not created before. In fact, I really enjoyed it and would love to make more videos like this in the future of the opportunities arise.

DB Longboards Mountain Run Video

For the past two years I have been working for DB Longboards and DB Skimboards. The job entailed long hours, lots of traveling, little sleep and a few injuries along the way. I got to live out some childhood dreams of working in the action sports industry and work with some amazing people along the way. It was all worth it though including when I get to release a video like this: For this video, we spent two days filming outside of Seattle. During the first day I was actually passing a kidney stone. Since the shoot was planned I decided to just deal with the pain and work on the project. The second day of filming I worked with Michael Dyrland, of DP Drones, to get the aerial footage we wanted along with some additional b-roll shots like the macro flower and sun fly by shots I captured. All in all I think this is my best work as an action sports videographer. It was a great experiment to try and make something different with a longboard video while also creating something the core longboard market would enjoy. I still plan on being involved with the action sports industry, […]

Skate, Skim and Fun: Summer in West Seattle

West Seattle is full of activities and Alki Beach is the source for all things fun in the area. Thanks to the 2.5 mile board walk that runs from Alki Point to the Duwamish Head on Elliott Bay accompanied by spectacular views it is a local favorite. Picture perfect summer days bring people out and make parking hard to find. You can walk, bike, rollerblade, play volleyball, search the beach for treasures, sunbathe, search for Pokemon or if you are like me skateboard and skimboard. Recently, I ventured out to West Seattle with DB Longboards team rider Spencer Smith to bring an idea we had to life. We wanted to feature downhill longboarding, cruising and skimboarding in one video. So, we started off with Spencer bombing a hill, then switched to a cruiser to head to the beach and finally ended near Anchor Point for a skimboard session on a custom DB Skimboard. This edit was a lot of fun to storyboard and shoot. You can checkout the final product below. A lot of credit has to go to Spencer for this video since he is one of the best downhill longboarders in the world, has great style while cruising […]
