Been kinda busy hunting for apartments in Seattle, buying a new car and preparing for the new job at DB Skimboards/DB Longboards, but I need to catch up on some blog posts. I also redid my website over the course of the weekend. I have really enjoyed my time capturing football photos this season thus far and before the season began I had the opportunity to meet some of the players. I spent a week capturing portraits of Whatcom County high school football players for the 2014 Bellingham Herald Football Preview section. I also ended up designing the cover of the special section also (you can see that above). Below you can see some of the portraits that ran inside the special section.
I was given the task to create some portraits for the Ski to Sea special section that The Bellingham Herald puts out each year. I used a ring flash and a random wall in the basement of The Bellingham Herald building to create all of these portraits. I also had a bunch of photos from last year’s race run in the special section and will be back up on the mountain covering the cross country and downhill legs of the race again this year.
I had to pleasure of spending the day with Tim and Katie to capture some portraits of them in Bellingham, Washington. This was my first engagement portraits session ever and I hope they like the photos. Here are a few of my favorites from the photo session.
In 2012 no one really knew who these two best friends Doug Baldwin and Richard Sherman were. When I took this photo I had no idea two years down the road they would help bring a Super Bowl to Seattle. I am pretty damn happy one of the Seattle pro teams won a championship and I got to witness it… For the past several weeks I have taken photos of Seahawks 12 man rallies, local residents going to the Super Bowl and pretty much any and everything Seahawks related for The Bellingham Herald. I had the pleasure of meeting with the Bellingham Ceili Club for a photoshoot Wednesday evening in Bellingham. You can find out more information about the Ceili Club by going to their website BellinghamCeiliClub.com
I have never really been a portrait photographer and over the past two months I have been reading every book I can on the subject and studying the art. I also purchased new SB 910 flashes, and other studio gear, so I can start creating portraits and perfect the art. I met with Dustin last night and gave my first serious attempt of capturing portraits that you can see here. I even tried some light writing techniques to get some more unique photos. If you are interested in getting some portraits done feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
