Whatcom Magazine Cover and inside photos

The Bellingham Herald (my day job) puts out Whatcom Magazine several times a year. For the new issue I landed the cover photo with my macro photos of raspberries, a photo of the Hovander House in Ferndale and the back page with an eagle photo. You can view all of the stories/photos online here: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/whatcom-magazine/

Harry the skimboarding dog

Saturday my girlfriend Dana and I took our friend Kelsey’s dog Harry to Locust Beach. I brought my skimboard with me and had to try and get Harry to ride it. Now not every dog is as talented as the Tillman the skimboarding dog, but Harry gave it his best. Here’s a few photos of Harry and myself skimboarding Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Locust Beach in Bellingham, Washington.

2013 Ski to Sea Race

Yesterday I covered the cross country and downhill legs of the 2013 Ski to Sea Race for The Bellingham Herald. It was my first time covering the two legs that take place at Mt Baker Ski area at the beginning of the race. Luckily I had Ron Lang of Mt Baker Ski Area to take me around on a snowmobile to get the shots I need of all the action. Since it was raining heavily certain areas of the cross country leg were quit slick. I noticed from afar cross country skiers falling in one section, so I ran over there to get the shot. That photo landed on the front page of The Bellingham Herald you can see above. It was raining so hard that even with rain gear my on my Nikon D3 and Cannon 5D both cameras stopped working about an hour into the race. Luckily I packed a Nikon 7100 and a 50mm lens in my camera backpack and was able to finish shooting the race. Below are a few more photos from The Bellingham Herald’s photo gallery. You can view all the photos here and view all of the Herald’s Ski to Sea coverage at […]

My backyard is a construction zone

A parking garage and new apartment complex is being built directly behind my apartment building. So, for the past several months I have witnessed the slow process of constructing a building. Here’s a few photos from today of the construction site in downtown Bellingham, Washington.

Odesza live at the Wild Buffalo

I gotta say I am a big fan of Odesza and it was great to see their show sellout last night at the Wild Buffalo in Bellingham. I had a friend from out of town with me, so I wasn’t able to take more than eight photos of the show, so this is just a few photos and more or less a post saying checkout out Odesza’s music. Also, my favorite song of Odesza’s is IPlayYouListen, which I used a small sample of for the time lapse below. ODESZA is a production duo made up of Harrison Mills (Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (BeachesBeaches) based out of the Pacific North West, United States. They met their senior year of college and decided to spend the summer as recent graduates collaborating on an album. On September 5th, 2012 they self-released a free LP entitled “Summer’s Gone”, creating a delicate balance between dreamy sun trickled melodies, glitched out vocals, crunchy drums and large sweeping basslines. Make sure to checkout Odesza at Summer Meltdown this August also. More at Odesza.com.

Alabama Street fire in Bellingham

As a staff photographer at The Bellingham Herald I never know when I am going to get called into work. Last night I was called in to take photos of a fire off Alabama Street in Bellingham. It was an abandoned house and no one was injured, but it served as a great practice for myself for future breaking-news events. I really enjoy covering breaking news because you never know what you are getting into and trying to capture a quality photo is a challenge. For these photos I used my Cannon 5D and a 50mm lens.
