Macro Photography: Up close with the Seattle rain

It’s been an unusually warm and dry winter in the Pacific Northwest, but the rain returned this weekend in Seattle and it gave me the chance to work on my macro photography. I actually missed the rain quite a bit and wandered around my neighborhood and apartment complex with a 105mm macro, focus tube and for a few of the photos an off camera speed light. Here’s the photos I captured. Early Spring: Seattle Cherry Blossoms

I was kinda caught off guard this year with all the early flowers in bloom. Normally I set aside some time to capture photos and video of Cherry Blossoms, but this year I didn’t have that much time and was limited to capturing photos in Captiol Hill around the 15th street. The top photo above was unexpectedly featured on @livewashington on Instagram during a pretty epic Washington State sunset, which was pretty cool. I tried to do something other than a traditional sunset photo and it paid off in terms of getting more eyeballs on the photo and a few more followers on Instagram. Anwyays, here’s a few photos from this year’s spring bloom in Seattle, Washington. Photos/Video featured in Pulse Skimboarding Magazine

I recently had a photo and video featured in Pulse Skimboarding Magazine and am stoked as always to help promote the sport of skimboarding that I love. I had one photo of DB Skimboards team rider Blake Zimmerman run along with an edit of DB Skimboards rider Adien Raza run in the magazine. It was cool to get one of my videos from my trip to Europe featured along with a Pacific Northwest skimboaridng photo. It was an extra bonus to get these both featured in the magazine. You can view the whole skimboard magazine by clicking here: Pulse Skimboard Magazine.

Seattle Seahawks City brought to you by the 12th Man

The Seattle Seahawks are on their way to their second Super Bowl and I could not be more stoked. After having the opportunity to capture a game on the field this season and talking briefly with Doug Baldwin and Pete Carroll I could not be more of a fan than I ever have in my life. The Seahawks vs Packers game was easily the most amazing football I have ever watched and I have watched it in its entirety again already. Seattle and all the 12s go all out to support the Seahawks and here are some of the photos I have captured over the past couple week around the city of Seattle. Go Hawks! And below is one of my photo of a crowded CenturyLink field I captured way back in 2010. Tomorrow for Blue Friday I plan on posting a bunch of my favorite photos I captured on the field while at the Seahawks game this season. Black and White with a Splash of Seahawks colors

I had the opportunity to be on the sidelines of the Seattle Seahawks versus New York Giants game in November. I have been going through all the photos from the game and picked a few photos that were some of my favorites and did the somewhat cliche edit of a black and white background with the subject in color. Due to the Seahawks dark uniforms this actually worked out pretty well on the first few edits, so I just kept going. Here’s a few of my edits from when the Seahawks destroyed the New York Giants at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Enjoy and GO HAWKS! DB Skimboards Mini Skim Edits

In hopes of pushing some holiday sales at DB Skimboards I put together several “mini edits” featuring DB Skimboards team riders. I also broke all of these videos up into 15 second versions that were also posted on Instagram and Facebook. The promos worked really well and sales were up over last year with no paid advertising support, which was great. As I go into 2015 I am going to try put out more media that is tailored to each social media platform with an end goal of trying to push traffic back to our websites. It’s a big challenge and I am excited to see what I can do over the next couple months.

2015 Bellingham Herald Calendar

Although I no longer work at The Bellingham Herald one of my last projects there was putting together a 2015 calendar. I am in Seattle now I haven’t seen the physical calendar yet, but I have heard it turned out well and they are selling the calendars for $3 at The Bellingham Herald customer service office or you can buy it online by CLICKING HERE. The Herald released the 2015 calendar featuring 11 of my photos along with the cover (Fellow photographer Phil Dwyer snagged October’s fall color photo). Below you can see all the photos that ran in the calendar categorized by month with the description the editorial staff at The Bellingham Herald wrote. January – Bald eagles live in northwest Washington year-round. Good places to look for them include Deming Homestead Eagle Park, Birch Bay State Park, and the Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive Center in Rockport. February – Mt. Baker Ski Area is a popular starting point backcountry skiers and snowboarders, but they must have proper equipment and must know about avalanche risks. March – Berries, potatoes and other crops contribute to the bounty of Whatcom County farms. April – Cherry blossoms add gentle hues to the […]
