Yesterday I covered the cross country and downhill legs of the 2013 Ski to Sea Race for The Bellingham Herald. It was my first time covering the two legs that take place at Mt Baker Ski area at the beginning of the race. Luckily I had Ron Lang of Mt Baker Ski Area to take me around on a snowmobile to get the shots I need of all the action.

Since it was raining heavily certain areas of the cross country leg were quit slick. I noticed from afar cross country skiers falling in one section, so I ran over there to get the shot. That photo landed on the front page of The Bellingham Herald you can see above.

It was raining so hard that even with rain gear my on my Nikon D3 and Cannon 5D both cameras stopped working about an hour into the race. Luckily I packed a Nikon 7100 and a 50mm lens in my camera backpack and was able to finish shooting the race.
